Cardiac Monitoring Technician

Overview:
Accountable for the ongoing observation of the Central Monitoring Unit, documentation of rhythm strips, and prompt communication of rhythm alterations to nursing staff or physicians.
Responsibilities:
Engage in the nursing inter-shift report data collection.
Conduct rounds on all monitored patients to assess their leads, skin condition, and monitor configurations.
Execute tasks to guarantee optimal accuracy and clarity of rhythm on the oscilloscope.
Uphold safety protocols in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.
Oversee the Central Monitoring Unit and maintain a log to document rhythm evaluations for each monitored patient. This evaluation should encompass at least the rate, rhythm, PR interval, QT interval, and rhythm interpretation.
Notify nursing staff of any changes in rate or rhythm immediately upon identification.
Diagnose monitoring issues and implement corrective measures. Refer to nursing staff or the Bio-Med Department as necessary.
Acquire a 12-lead EKG as directed by nursing staff or physicians.
Document rhythm strips according to unit protocols during emergency code procedures, or as instructed by nursing staff or physicians.
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the Central Monitoring environment by performing necessary housekeeping tasks.
Maintain sufficient monitoring supplies such as electrode gel, leads, EKG paper, etc.
Inspect EKG machines, defibrillators, and external pacemakers to confirm cleanliness and readiness for use.
Perform related duties as assigned by the Nurse-in-Charge.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Higher education is preferred.
Experience:
No prior experience necessary, although some experience as a Monitor Technician is advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills:
Proficient in mathematics and computer usage.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Exhibits respect and professionalism in all interactions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Able to see, hear, read, and write in English.
Capable of fully utilizing BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position as required.
Licenses, Certifications:
BCLS
Basic Arrhythmia or Dysrhythmia Class with Certificate is required.
Physical Requirements:
Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
Manual dexterity and finger coordination.
Hand-eye coordination.
Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds.
Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
Frequent sitting at a desk working on a computer.
