Position Overview

The role of a Fire Protection Engineer involves conducting comprehensive risk assessments and identifying potential fire hazards. This position is responsible for formulating effective fire protection strategies applicable to various facilities, ensuring compliance with technical standards and codes, and maintaining fire safety systems. Collaboration with other engineering professionals and management is essential to address issues and resolve any fire safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct engineering evaluations and provide oversight for maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Coordinate with trade shops to prioritize tasks, review ongoing projects, and inspect installed systems.
  • Manage work orders and service requests, ensuring timely execution of projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, documentation, and detailed reports.
  • Analyze utility costs and coordinate energy programs.
  • Offer engineering support during emergencies outside regular hours.
  • Supervise project design and construction efforts, including budget management and daily oversight.
  • Assess contractor performance and ensure project integration with field personnel.
  • Evaluate and manage project change requests and provide regular project status updates.
  • Facilitate communication with stakeholders, management, and project teams.
  • Assist in acquisition planning and execution with contracting officers.
  • Conduct pre-bid and pre-construction site evaluations.
  • Provide necessary documentation for invoice processing.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets, providing technical guidance on contracting issues.
  • Ensure project objectives are met efficiently while optimizing performance and costs.
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with all data management systems.
  • Integrate various systems including IT, security, and HVAC into fire protection designs.
  • Prepare performance reports upon project completion.
  • Design fire detection and suppression systems and procedures.
  • Stay updated on fire protection advancements through continuous learning.
  • Act as a fire protection authority for regulatory bodies.
  • Support senior engineering staff with technical expertise.
  • Create comprehensive design plans, schematics, and specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for design tasks and conduct site evaluations.
  • Participate in project meetings and adhere to client standards.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related engineering field, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Clearance: Active TS-SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Experience: Proficient in fire protection engineering principles, building codes, and standards, with hands-on experience in fire safety plan reviews and compliance.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with U.S. IC structure, Microsoft Office, and project management methodologies.
  • Skills: Expertise in fire safety for various laboratory environments and the ability to manage complex regulatory compliance tasks.
  • Abilities: Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency in managing multiple projects under pressure.
Work Environment
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Work may involve operationally-sensitive environments and varying conditions.
