Position Overview

The Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for conducting risk assessments and identifying fire hazards, formulating fire safety strategies applicable to various facilities, advising on technical specifications for compliance with fire codes, and developing and managing fire safety systems. This role involves collaboration with engineering teams and management to address issues and rectify potential fire safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct engineering assessments, coordination, and supervision of maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Manage and coordinate tasks with trade shops, ensuring prioritization of work, project reviews, and equipment inspections.
  • Oversee work orders, service requests, and project management.
  • Prepare cost estimates, documentation, and reports.
  • Analyze utility costs and coordinate energy programs.
  • Provide emergency engineering support outside of regular hours.
  • Direct project design and construction activities, including scheduling, funding, and daily oversight.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and manage construction activities.
  • Integrate and coordinate projects with field teams.
  • Assess and manage project change requests.
  • Deliver official weekly project updates.
  • Facilitate communication regarding projects with clients, management, and stakeholders.
  • Assist in acquisition planning and administration with the Contracting Officer and Technical Representative.
  • Support pre-bid and pre-construction site evaluations.
  • Provide necessary documentation for payment processing.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets, offering technical guidance on contracting and construction issues.
  • Ensure project objectives are met efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Conduct design reviews with clients.
  • Ensure all project data is accurately recorded in the project management tool.
  • Facilitate the integration of all systems, including IT, security, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Prepare performance reports upon project completion.
  • Design fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Develop plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial projects.
  • Stay updated on fire protection trends through professional development.
  • Act as a fire protection authority for regulatory bodies and policymakers.
  • Provide engineering support to senior staff.
  • Create detailed plans, schematics, equipment selections, and specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for design work.
  • Conduct site evaluations.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Adhere to client standards and protocols.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related engineering discipline, with five years of relevant experience.
  • Clearance: Active TS-SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Experience: Proficient in fire protection engineering principles, building construction, and relevant codes and standards.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with U.S. IC organizational structures and project management methodologies.
  • Skills: Experience in fire safety for high-risk environments and knowledge of fire department operations.
  • Abilities: Strong communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and willingness to travel as required.
Work Environment
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Work may involve outdoor settings, confined spaces, and irregular schedules.
  • May require passing medical and psychological evaluations.
