About the Role:
As part of MITRE's Soldier Capabilities department, you will collaborate with engineers, scientists, military experts, and technology providers to innovate combat and training capabilities that enhance Soldier effectiveness, lethality, survivability, and readiness. Your work will encompass various domains, including research and analysis, requirements engineering, systems engineering, systems architecture, systems design, proof of concept development, web development, game/simulation development, and test development.

Key Responsibilities:
Your specific tasks will adapt to current project needs, potentially including:

  • Researching and aiding in the implementation of software prototypes to validate concept capabilities.
  • Creating engineering documentation, white papers, and presentations to communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment with MITRE colleagues, government sponsors, industry partners, academia, and research institutions.
  • Utilizing systems engineering expertise to adopt a comprehensive approach to Soldier effectiveness and readiness challenges.
  • Employing advanced methods and tools to assess training and operational performance, identifying constraints and proposing enhancements.
  • Facilitating the integration of emerging technologies across various Army domains.
  • Developing proof of concepts to illustrate optimal software integration patterns.
  • Designing system and system-of-systems architectures, applying industry-standard best practices to iteratively refine architectures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Understanding of systems engineering throughout the development lifecycle, from concept inception to requirements definition, system development, integration, and verification testing.
  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with software development tools and environments.
  • Proficiency in software planning tools such as GitLab or Jira.
  • Knowledge of various programming languages.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey concepts to diverse technical audiences.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with applicable experience.
  • Experience working within an agile development team.
  • Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) technologies like GitLab CI, Jenkins, Travis CI, or CircleCI.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management/Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform).
  • Experience with web development technologies such as HTML5/JavaScript, React, RESTful frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot), and relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Familiarity with game engines like Unity, Unreal Engine, and CRYENGINE.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of web application development using HTML/JavaScript, React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Experience with industry-standard technologies for defining service interfaces (e.g., REST/Swagger, gRPC, Protocol Buffers).
  • An active DoD Secret or higher clearance.
