Job Description

Job Title: Fire Protection Engineer

Job Summary:

V2X is seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our team. As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for performing risk analysis and checking for fire hazards, developing fire protection strategies, and consulting on technical requirements for code adherence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Provide engineering review, coordination, and oversight of operations and maintenance, repair, and construction work.
  • Trade Shop Coordination: Oversee and coordinate activities with the trade shops, including prioritization of work, review of ongoing projects, and inspection of installed equipment.
  • Work Order Management: Oversee and coordinate work orders, service orders, and projects.
  • Cost Estimation: Develop cost estimates, documents, and reports.
  • Energy Program Coordination: Coordinate energy program and analyzing utility costs.
  • Emergency Services: Provide after-hours engineering services in the event of an emergency.
  • Project Design and Construction: Manage project design and/or construction efforts, to include schedule, funding, and day-to-day project oversight.
  • Contractor Performance Evaluation: Manage and evaluate construction contractor performance.
  • Project Coordination: Integrate and coordinate projects with field personnel.
  • Change Request Management: Evaluate, validate, and manage project change requests.
  • Project Status Reporting: Provide official weekly project status reports.
  • Project Communication: Prepare and distribute project communication with customers, management, integrated project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Acquisition Planning: Assist the client's Contracting Officer (CO) and Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) with acquisition planning, execution and administration.
  • Pre-Bid and Pre-Construction Site Visits: Assist the CO and COTR with conducting pre-bid and pre-construction site visits with the COTR.
  • Invoice Preparation: Provide invoice supporting information to the COTR for payment.
  • Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Prepare and monitor project schedules and budgets; provide technical guidance and assistance on contracting and construction-related issues; direct design efforts; recommend construction documents for approval; and provide oversight of any follow-on maintenance programs.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize performance, cost, and schedule by ensuring project objectives are achieved on schedule and at the lowest cost compatible with user requirements.
  • Design Reviews: Conduct design reviews with the customer.
  • MAXIMO Software: Ensure timely input of all data, comments, and documentation into MAXIMO software project management tool. This requirement applies to all projects, work orders, and tasks across the project lifecycle.
  • System Integration: Ensure integration of all systems, including information technology, telephone, security, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Contractor Performance Report: Prepare Contractor Performance Report (CPR) upon contract closeout.
  • Fire Detection and Elimination: Design fire detection and elimination equipment and procedures.
  • Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems: Design of plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial interior projects.
  • Fire Protection Understanding: Stay current on fire protection understanding through professional literature and conferences.
  • Fire Protection Expert: Act as fire protection expert for governmental authorities and policy makers.
  • Engineering Support: Provide engineering support for senior engineering staff.
  • Plan and Schematic Development: Create plans, schematics, equipment selection, calculations, systems narratives, specifications, system design and layout, field investigation and construction administration.
  • AutoCAD Design: Perform design work in AutoCAD.
  • Site Evaluations: Ability to perform site evaluations.
  • Project Meetings: Attend project meetings.
  • Engineering Support: Provide engineering support for senior engineering staff.
  • Client Standards and Procedures: Comply with Client standards and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering or BS in related Engineering discipline and five (5) years fire protection engineering experience in a similar field may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Clearance: Must have a current, adjudicated, and active TS-SCI w/Poly.
  • Experience: The application of fire protection engineering concepts, building construction, NFPA) codes and standards (especially NFPA 1, 13, 14, 17, 20, 25, 30, 45, 72, 96A, 101, 801 and 2001), International Building and Fire Codes (IBC/IFC), and ES&H requirements associated with fire protection program implementation.
  • Knowledge: U.S. IC organizational structure, Microsoft Office tools, Project Management techniques.
  • Skills: Experience with fire protection and life safety aspects applicable to chemical processes, wet chemistry and laser laboratories, radiological laboratories, high-hazard and nuclear facilities.
  • Abilities: Communicate well verbally and in writing at all organizational levels, especially ability to brief senior officials.
