Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Manager to join our team at the Veterans Medical Research Foundation of San Diego. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and directing the design, planning, construction, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building Management
    • Inspect and evaluate building use and facilities to optimize space allocation and resource utilization.
    • Analyze and improve HVAC systems, computer network wiring, lighting, and other factors to ensure efficient and safe operations.
    • Manage the Facilities Department, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling facilities modifications, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and compliance with regulations.
  • Facilities Planning and Development
    • Develop long-range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay requirements for facilities, including documentation and budgeting.
    • Formulate and coordinate program specifications, requirements for proposals and contracts, and associated documents.
    • Act as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Maintenance and Operations
    • Oversee the coordination of building space allocation, layout, and communication services.
    • Direct maintenance personnel and workers engaged in equipment installation, facilities equipment repair, and preventive maintenance.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations, and report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners to achieve shared goals and objectives.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to ensure effective collaboration and decision-making.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid CA driver's license and current, valid vehicle insurance that meets specified limits.
