Job Summary

The DC Department of Human Resources is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Appellate Litigation Fellow to join our team in the Office of the Solicitor General. As an Appellate Litigation Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on high-profile matters of both local and national importance, handling appeals involving a variety of substantive areas including constitutional law, employment law, contracts, torts, tax, criminal law, and administrative law.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with merits briefing, multistate litigation, and amicus curiae work in a variety of areas, including administrative law, constitutional law, consumer protection, and environmental law. Fellows will have the opportunity to argue at least one case during the fellowship.

Qualifications

  • Active bar membership
  • At least one year of post-JD experience (which may include clerkships)
  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills
  • Strong oral advocacy skills
  • Appellate clerkship experience strongly encouraged

Working Conditions/Environment

The work is generally performed in an office setting, with some walking, handling, and carrying of light to moderately heavy objects required.
