POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to the origination of residential first mortgage loans for branch offices and external referrals. The position aims to meet the sales standards and objectives set by management, particularly focusing on Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) products and services that cater to low to moderate-income individuals and communities, as well as non-profit organizations. The individual will take full ownership of the residential mortgage loan process from application through to closing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and develop CRA prospects and referral networks, including real estate agents, builders, and personal contacts.
  • Stay informed about Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of available loan products, processing protocols, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Organize and facilitate homebuyer education seminars for potential CRA applicants.
  • Manage employee loan processes and engage in Fifth Third-sponsored events to promote employee loans.
  • Adhere to established protocols for escalating exceptions.
  • Collect applicant information by completing the required mortgage application forms.
  • Utilize technology for communication, access to daily rates, applicant credit evaluations, and loan processing.
  • Gather necessary documentation from applicants and ensure timely submission of loan packages.
  • Oversee the pipeline for all originated loans through to closing and prepare required management reports.
  • Provide timely updates and progress reports to applicants and referral sources.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while managing expectations of applicants and support staff.
  • Participate in all Consumer Lending meetings as mandated by management.
  • This position requires registration under the SAFE Act through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) upon employment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; a four-year college degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with conventional and government lending guidelines.
  • Understanding of residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing real estate lending.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mortgage lending is required.
  • Established local business connections are essential.
  • Demonstrated monthly mortgage sales of at least $1 million.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Basic sales techniques are necessary.
  • A strong desire to excel in a competitive environment.
