GENERAL FUNCTION:

This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to the origination of residential first mortgage loans, catering to branch offices and external referrals. You will meet the standards and objectives set by management for mortgage loan sales and cross-selling initiatives. The focus will be on promoting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) products and services, specifically targeting low to moderate-income individuals and communities, as well as non-profit organizations. You will take full responsibility for the residential mortgage loan process from application through to closing.

Your primary work location will be in a designated rural market as defined by the Decisional Science Group (DSG).

As a key player, you will be responsible for managing risk by openly sharing ideas and concerns, and adhering to established policies and procedures. You will be accountable for ensuring that all actions and behaviors contribute to a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk framework, you will achieve results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various types of risks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop prospects and referral contacts for CRA initiatives (including realtors, builders, and personal networks).
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed about available loan products, processing protocols, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Organize and conduct homebuyer training seminars for potential CRA applicants.
  • Manage employee loans and engage in Fifth Third-coordinated events to promote these loans.
  • Follow established protocols for escalating exceptions.
  • Complete applicant applications using the Fannie Mae form 1003 on a laptop.
  • Utilize technology for communication, accessing daily rates, applicant credit reports, Loan Prospector responses, and transmitting loans.
  • Gather necessary documentation from applicants and ensure timely delivery of loan packages.
  • Oversee the pipeline for all originated loans through to closing and complete required management reports.
  • Provide timely updates and progress reports to applicants and referral sources.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service while managing expectations of applicants and support staff.
  • Participate in all Consumer Lending meetings as required by management.
  • This position requires SAFE Act registration upon employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; a four-year college degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with conventional and/or government lending guidelines.
  • Understanding of residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal lending regulations related to real estate lending.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mortgage lending is required.
  • An established local book of business is essential.
  • Existing mortgage sales of $1 million per month are necessary.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven teamwork and customer service abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Basic sales technique knowledge.
  • A strong desire to excel in a competitive environment.
