GENERAL FUNCTION:

This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities related to the origination of residential first mortgage loans for branch locations and external referrals. You will be expected to meet the sales targets and objectives established by management for mortgage loan origination and cross-selling initiatives. The focus will be on promoting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) products and services, specifically aimed at low to moderate-income individuals and communities, as well as non-profit organizations. You will take full ownership of the residential mortgage loan process from application through to closing.

Accountability for risk management is crucial, which involves openly sharing insights and concerns, adhering to established policies and procedures, and ensuring a commitment to ethical practices for both customers and colleagues. You will be responsible for fostering a positive customer experience while effectively identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various types of risks within the Bank's risk framework.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and develop CRA prospects and referral sources (including real estate agents, builders, and personal connections).
  • Stay informed about Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and operational procedures.
  • Maintain an understanding of available loan products, processing protocols, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Organize and facilitate homebuyer education seminars for potential CRA applicants.
  • Manage employee loan programs and participate in Fifth Third-organized events to promote these loans.
  • Adhere to established protocols for escalating exceptions.
  • Process applicant applications using the Fannie Mae form 1003 on a laptop.
  • Utilize technology for communication, accessing daily rates, applicant credit histories, Loan Prospector responses, and submitting loans to LOMAS.
  • Gather necessary documentation from applicants and ensure timely delivery of loan packages as per management expectations.
  • Oversee the pipeline for all originated loans until closing and complete required management reporting.
  • Maintain communication with applicants and referral sources, providing timely updates and progress reports.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while managing expectations of applicants and support staff.
  • Participate in all Consumer Lending meetings as mandated by management.
  • This position requires registration under the SAFE Act at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; a four-year college degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with conventional and/or government lending guidelines.
  • Understanding of residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing real estate lending.
  • Demonstrated organizational capabilities.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mortgage lending is required.
  • An established local network of business contacts is essential.
  • Proven mortgage sales performance of $1 million per month is necessary.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and provide excellent customer service.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Basic sales techniques knowledge.
  • A strong desire to succeed in a competitive environment.
