Job Description / Essential Elements:

Basic Function:
Under the general guidance of the elementary grade level teacher(s), assist with both instructional and non-instructional responsibilities related to the classroom educational program.

Representative Duties:
Incumbents may engage in a variety of essential functions as outlined below. Duties may differ from classroom to classroom within the school environment. This position description aims to accurately represent the core job elements rather than providing an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification.

Student Support and Assistance

Facilitate and support students individually and in small groups across subjects such as math, reading, writing, and science.

Prepare and assist with instructional activities and special projects.

Supervise students during recess and lunch periods.

Provide encouragement and support to promote positive behavior and independence among students.

Administer basic first aid as needed.

Classroom Assistance

Collect, prepare, and organize educational materials (including copying, supplies, and manipulatives).

Set up bulletin boards and displays showcasing student work.

Assemble student books for classroom presentations.

Collaborate with parent volunteers to assist students on special projects.

Teacher Support and Assistance

Assist with grading, recording, and distributing student work; check-in homework and returned assignments.

Administer make-up quizzes and tests for students who were absent.

Prepare and organize communications and materials for students to take home.

Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to a high school diploma. Coursework in child development and experience with school-aged children is preferred.

Skills:
Understanding of appropriate grade-level academic subjects and techniques for guiding and motivating students. Proficiency in clerical tasks including typing and photocopying.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:


Grade-level academic subjects.

Fundamental concepts of child development and behavior.

Techniques for guiding and motivating students.

Record-keeping methods.

Correct usage of English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Interpersonal skills characterized by tact, patience, respect, and courtesy.

Ability to:

Meet the District's standards of professional conduct as outlined in the Board Policy Code of Ethics for Classified Personnel.

Engage with students in individual or small group settings.

Adapt to various classroom environments.

Perform light clerical tasks, which may include typing.

Follow and convey oral and written instructions in English.

Demonstrate correct spelling, proper English usage, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Quickly learn relevant procedures and functions and apply them under general supervision.

Collaborate effectively and communicate with students, staff, and parents.

Working Conditions:


Environment:
Classroom setting with frequent interruptions.

Physical Abilities:
Ability to hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the phone; sufficient vision to read, prepare, and proofread documents; capability to sit or stand for extended periods; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; ability to kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead to retrieve and store files and supplies; capacity to lift light objects.

Requirements / Qualifications


Applicants must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent, along with an AA degree or a minimum competency test as required.

Fingerprint and TB clearance will be necessary as a condition of employment. Verification of COVID-19 vaccination status is also required.
