Position Summary
The Paraeducator will report to the school leader and work under the guidance of the Education Specialist or another certified staff member. This role primarily involves providing a range of academic and behavioral support to individual students or small groups within both special education and general education classrooms, as well as in various school environments (including both in-person and virtual settings).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of instructional programs to enhance learning opportunities across diverse educational contexts.
  • Support the establishment and execution of effective classroom and school-wide behavioral strategies, ensuring students can fully engage with their educational environment.
  • This position offers compensation over a 12-month period, inclusive of scheduled breaks and summer recess.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:
Prior paid or volunteer experience working with individuals who have academic, behavioral, or functional needs is preferred.

Education:
Title I paraprofessionals involved in instructional support must possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, and
  • An A.A. degree or
  • A B.A. degree (or a minimum of 48 college units in progress) or
  • Successful completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment (minimum passing score = 460).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to reinforce learning activities in core academic and specialized subject areas.
  • Assist in executing behavior intervention plans, utilizing approved positive reinforcement techniques and behavior modification strategies.
  • Encourage social interactions and foster positive relationships between students with disabilities and their peers.
  • Model appropriate behaviors and attitudes while providing emotional support and guidance to all students.
  • Facilitate student participation in field trips and school events.
  • Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students in separate locations or during extended time.
  • Communicate student progress to the Education Specialist through observations and accurate record-keeping.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and collaborative classroom environment.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene and grooming tasks as needed.
  • Report any health concerns to the appropriate school personnel.
  • Uphold confidentiality of student records and classroom information in compliance with legal standards and KIPP policies.
  • Maintain instructional continuity in the absence of the Education Specialist.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Student Study Meetings.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and competencies.
  • Demonstrate consistent and punctual attendance during work hours.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines as outlined by relevant public health authorities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to navigate school environments and utilize technology effectively. Occasional lifting of equipment (1-20 lbs) may be required. Physical agility is necessary to perform duties effectively, including kneeling, walking, and reaching.

Mental: Ability to manage stress related to deadlines and maintain focus amidst interruptions. Skills in problem-solving, reading, and basic math are essential.

Environmental: The school and classroom setting may be subject to frequent interruptions. In certain circumstances, work may be conducted virtually, requiring the establishment of a productive remote work environment.

Classification
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position aligned with the school year calendar and time-off policies.

Compensation
KIPP Northern California is committed to supporting the well-being of its employees and their families. We offer a competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits. Our salary structure is benchmarked annually against regional school districts and charter schools to ensure competitiveness. The hourly rate for this position is $24.84, with compensation distributed over a 12-month period, including scheduled breaks and summer recess.
