CREDIT OPERATIONS MANAGER

WHAT IS THE ROLE?

This position leads and oversees the workflow and functions of the credit and underwriting department. It is responsible for managing the credit oversight process for both portfolio management and new loan originations. The role includes reviewing loan structures to ensure compliance with established credit standards and company policies. Continuous monitoring and assessment of both new and existing portfolios for potential risks and exposures are essential. The manager will act as a technical authority and may structure credits for significant, intricate loans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Credit Underwriting
  • Collaborates with the Division Manager to prioritize and manage the credit underwriting workflow, including loans, commitments, and renewals. Assigns credit staff to relationship teams based on their expertise and the complexity of the portfolio.
  • Evaluates credit requests to determine creditworthiness, analyzing loan quality, risk classification, structure, collateral, pricing, and adherence to banking policies.
  • Reviews financial analyses and documentation to assess risk ratings, identify potential credit issues, and ensure compliance with lending policies. Recommends preventative actions to mitigate potential losses.
  • Monitors the credit underwriting process for quality, compliance, and consistency while addressing client needs.
  • Maintains effective communication with Underwriters, Credit Analysts, and Commercial Banking Relationship Managers regarding credit matters, including loan recommendations and industry analysis.
  • Participates in joint client meetings, providing insights and guidance.
  • Leads the Deal Team for large, complex loans exceeding $10 million.

Portfolio Monitoring and Management

  • Evaluates the credit quality of both new and existing commercial loans, coordinating with Credit Administration on deal structures and status updates.
  • Oversees loan activities, reviewing reports for unusual transactions and ensuring timely submission of financial statements and compliance with covenants.
  • Ensures that all credit files are updated with the latest financial data and reports.

Staff Management

  • Develops training and development plans for team members.
  • Coaches and motivates staff, identifying development needs and mentoring high-potential employees.
  • Manages staffing levels to optimize client support and profitability.

Administrative Duties

  • Oversees preparations for federal examinations and internal audits.
  • Prepares reports to monitor renewals, portfolio risks, and compliance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and provides ongoing feedback to staff.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality controls related to financial products and services are maintained.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in credit administration and portfolio management.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a leadership or management role.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of credit policies, accounting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to analyze credits and detailed knowledge of lending structures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting clear recommendations.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $141,830 - $263,408 per year, with potential for bonuses and commissions based on skills and experience.
