The Lead Credit Analyst is responsible for preparing comprehensive credit analysis documents for executive management and the Board, clearly outlining risks, financial metrics, and policy adherence. This role involves identifying and evaluating a borrower's credit risks and providing a detailed assessment of the organization's capacity to manage these risks. The Lead Credit Analyst also prepares in-depth loan underwriting packages for the commercial loan approval and review process. Additionally, this position offers support to junior credit staff and collaborates with other departments as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with lending officers and portfolio managers to comprehend proposed lending transactions, drafting written credit analyses for these transactions, and facilitating the approval process for new loans, renewals, modifications, and annual reviews.
- Conduct analyses and provide suitable credit structure recommendations on both new and existing complex credits. Analyze financial statements and prepare credit memoranda for informed loan decision-making. Perform credit evaluations on intricate relationships, including Commercial and Industrial (C&I), Commercial Investment Real Estate, Owner-occupied, and Residential Construction clients.
- Operate independently with minimal oversight from Credit Managers on most commercial loan underwriting requests, determining when complex credit requests necessitate management input.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the bank's Commercial Lending Policy and apply it appropriately to loan approval requests.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SBA program guidelines to ensure compliance.
- Contribute to the accuracy of the Bank's commercial loan rating system by applying risk rating definitions to proposed transactions.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior credit analysts.
- Assist in generating reports for monitoring credit quality as directed by the Chief Credit Officer and/or Credit Managers.
- Support other credit risk management activities, including internal or external audits, loan reviews, or regulatory compliance matters as required.
- Participate in joint client meetings with lending officers when appropriate.
- Contribute to effective team management of projects, issues, and opportunities as needed.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in banking or financial services.
- Completion of a formal credit training program or at least 5 years of experience as a credit analyst.
- Extensive experience in preparing and editing credit analyses and related documents such as memoranda and policy documents.
- 5+ years of demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and present clear and well-supported commercial loan approval recommendations, including large and complex C&I and CRE transactions.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate credit and business issues to lenders, managers, and loan approvers.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple underwriting assignments simultaneously.
- Knowledge of commercial lending operations and regulations.
- Proficient in MS Office and capable of quickly learning and supporting digital platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, possessing effective project and time management skills.
