The Credit Risk Review Department (CRR) operates as a crucial component of the third line of defense, maintaining independence from all credit granting, adjudication, operations, and risk management activities conducted by the first and second lines of defense. The mandate of CRR is to independently evaluate and provide insights on the overall credit risk and the effectiveness of credit risk management processes within the organization. Additionally, CRR acts as an internal consultant to lending units and credit administration/risk management, identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements related to credit risk management activities, regulatory concerns, credit policies, and general credit underwriting standards. The department also identifies existing or potential issues regarding credit risk assessment and the management of the organization's credit/loan exposure, while analyzing and monitoring the quality of various retail and commercial credits that encompass the diverse range of credit products offered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage examinations of diverse credit portfolios and processes.
  • Conduct risk-based independent reviews of all types of loan portfolios to identify current or potential issues, as well as positive aspects, related to credit risk assessment and management.
  • Assess the accuracy of assigned internal credit risk ratings and identify non-compliance with policies and procedures, ensuring timely corrective actions are taken.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements related to credit risk management activities and regulatory compliance.
  • Interpret and evaluate organizational Credit Policy, ensuring that appropriate credit controls are in place to effectively manage credit risk.
  • Serve as an internal advisor to various units regarding loan and credit matters, providing guidance in areas needing further development.
  • Stay informed about current regulatory and industry trends affecting credit areas.
  • Foster teamwork within the department to ensure knowledge and experience are shared among team members.
  • Prepare departmental reports and portfolio reporting as required by management.
  • Adhere to all operational and credit policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Complete all necessary training and special projects as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in credit examination as a commercial lender, regulator, or credit review officer.
  • At least 5 years of experience with MS Office applications.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Completion of a formal credit training program at a commercial bank is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in leading teams of examiners is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of analyzing various types of middle market credits is essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of analyzing different types of commercial credit, including corporate and syndicated loans, is highly sought after.
  • In-depth knowledge of Probability of Default (PD) and Loss Given Default (LGD) systems is required.
  • Ability to lead a team of examiners in successfully completing credit risk review activities and related projects.
  • Proficiency in a client-focused, consultative work environment is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with strong project management capabilities, are crucial.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and operational skills in using personal computers and various software applications, including Excel and Word.

Compensation

The starting base salary ranges from $111,408 to $189,738 per year, with exact compensation varying based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.

Benefits and Perks

The organization is committed to providing competitive benefits and perks to its employees.
