Job Title: Director of NYSPI IRB Management

Grade: 37

Salary: $167,905 - $190,003

The Director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) IRB Management will play a pivotal role within the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). This position is tasked with overseeing the NYSPI IRB, which is responsible for evaluating all downstate OMH human subject projects that require expedited or full board review.

The incumbent will lead the IRB team and office, offering regulatory guidance to the IRB Chair, members, investigators, and Institute leadership. Additionally, the Director will support investigators in the development and submission of research protocols and manage the electronic protocol submission and oversight system. Collaboration with other HRPP directors will be essential to coordinate educational initiatives and training aimed at upholding the highest standards in human subjects research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Regulatory Policy and NKI IRB management to interpret and implement policies governing the OMH IRBs at both NKI and NYSPI.
  • Design, establish, and maintain an effective IRB staffing and organizational structure to fulfill the HRPP program's objectives.
  • Oversee the management of senior IRB analysts and work with IRB chairs and members to realign review processes with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), as well as institutional, state, and federal regulations.
  • Act as the primary regulatory resource for clinicians, sponsors, and study teams, providing guidance on regulatory statuses, approvals, and patient consent procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.A./M.S. degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a research environment.
