The Director of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Management at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) will play a pivotal role within the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). This position entails overseeing the evaluation of all downstate OMH human subject research initiatives that necessitate expedited or full board review.
The incumbent will lead the IRB team and office, offering regulatory guidance to the IRB Chair, members, researchers, and Institute leadership. Additionally, the Director will assist investigators in the formulation and submission of research protocols and manage the electronic protocol submission and oversight system. Collaborating with other HRPP directors, this individual will also be responsible for coordinating educational initiatives and training to uphold the highest standards in human subjects research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Regulatory Policy and NKI IRB management to interpret and implement policies governing the OMH IRBs at both NKI and NYSPI.
- Design, establish, and maintain an effective IRB staffing and organizational structure to fulfill the HRPP program's objectives.
- Manage senior IRB analysts and work in conjunction with IRB chairs and members to realign review processes with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), as well as institutional, state, and federal regulations.
- Serve as the primary regulatory resource for clinicians, sponsors, and study teams, providing guidance on regulatory statuses, approvals, and patient consent protocols.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree (M.A./M.S.) or equivalent relevant experience.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a research environment.
