Position Overview:

As a key member of the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) Pre-Award Team, the Grants Management Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the administration of both international and domestic funding opportunities. Reporting directly to the Associate Director, this position is essential in guiding faculty and staff through the intricacies of grant and contract management.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert advice to faculty and administrators on securing external funding for research initiatives, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and institutional policies.
  2. Establish and nurture strong relationships with faculty, Principal Investigators, and external sponsors to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  3. Lead the development and enhancement of the grants management process, analyzing client interactions and submission quality to implement necessary improvements.
  4. Offer training and support to Principal Investigators and departmental staff in proposal development, including budgeting and interpretation of sponsor guidelines.
  5. Review and prepare grant and contract proposals, ensuring all necessary information is accurately entered into relevant data systems.
  6. Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) to negotiate terms for complex proposals and facilitate agreements, including subcontracts and clinical trials.
  7. Stay informed about laws, regulations, and internal policies governing grant administration, ensuring compliance among key personnel.
  8. Serve as a backup to leadership and assist in the training and development of team members as needed.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree combined with four years of relevant professional experience is required. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to manage a diverse portfolio of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with Yale's financial and administrative policies, as well as experience with electronic proposal systems, is advantageous. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to grant administration is also preferred.

This position does not require weekend or evening hours, and candidates will undergo a pre-employment background screening as part of the hiring process.
