The Senior Accounting Associate offers extensive clerical and administrative assistance for the overall accounting operations of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, focusing particularly on government grant reporting.

This position entails supporting monthly closing activities, reconciling accounts, processing journal entries, and managing the general ledger, while also working collaboratively with various departments to oversee and evaluate grant budget data.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute clerical and administrative duties to facilitate accounts receivable, including contract billing, general accounting tasks, and monthly closing activities.

Aid the Senior Accountant with bank reconciliations and journal entries as needed, and uphold the integrity of the general ledger by posting and reviewing entries and performing month-end account reconciliations.

Assist the Controller during the annual audit process.
Support the Accounts Payable Coordinator.
Engage in cross-training with other finance roles and collaborate with different departments and branches within the Association.
Drive process enhancements, make bank deposits when necessary, and undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
Treat colleagues, clients, and visitors with respect, courtesy, and professionalism, addressing conflicts and disagreements in a constructive and respectful manner.

Develop and sustain tools for tracking and analyzing grant budget data for all grant-funded initiatives, including the creation of spreadsheets and reports, data analysis, and reconciliation with the general ledger.

Investigate discrepancies, coordinate with Human Resources, Purchasing, and Accounts Payable, and prepare journal entries for monthly adjustments.

Assist Program Directors with budget modifications and remain informed about all grant agency requirements, budgets, restrictions, and policies to ensure compliance.

Generate precise financial reports for all assigned grants, adhering to deadlines and regulations, and serve as a liaison to grant agencies to maintain compliance.

Prepare documentation for grant contracts, amendments, and RFP execution by gathering necessary forms and signatures, managing logistical requirements, and distributing to relevant personnel internally and externally.

Collect and analyze data to compile and distribute statistical reports as requested by the Controller or Chief Financial Officer.

REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree in Accounting is mandatory.
1 – 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in the non-profit sector with grant-related experience.
Must possess strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
A positive and collaborative attitude is crucial.
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is preferred (for making bank deposits as needed).
