POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Party Chief or Project Quality Manager, the Surveyor II applies their skills and knowledge to assess the conformity of material and equipment installations to MasTec Industrial and/or Client specifications. This role involves conducting inspections and layouts for various project activities, generating reports on conditions observed during inspections, and promptly notifying management of any significant issues. The Surveyor II is responsible for completing documentation to verify satisfactory inspection or testing activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to and promote all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Document survey results, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land features; ensure survey data is transmitted to the appropriate files within the computer network for field use.
  • Record readings or write station numbers and readings in a notebook.
  • Mark measurement points with elevation, station numbers, or other identifying marks.
  • Measure distances between survey points using steel or cloth tape or a surveyor's chain.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their precision.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other terrain characteristics.
  • Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of significant features and boundaries using various surveying instruments.
  • Prepare equipment for daily tasks and assist in loading/unloading.
  • Engage in additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate initiative in seeking additional work or assisting colleagues upon completing regular assignments.
  • Continuously enhance skills and understanding of surveying practices.
  • Exhibit punctuality in work assignments.
  • Conduct oneself professionally in the presence of clients and colleagues.
  • Meet project schedules and budgetary constraints.
  • Manage and mentor direct reports effectively.
  • Ensure daily task schedules align with project timelines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with craft personnel and other team members.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities.
  • Proficient in using various types of survey equipment.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Familiarity with health and safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Exemplify safe behavior as a personal standard.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations using various units of measure.
  • Developing knowledge of layout and survey work.
  • Ability to follow directions accurately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift performing physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; capable of lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Willingness to work at heights and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Visual acuity to evaluate information based on measurable standards.
  • Coordination of eyes, hands, and feet for effective task performance.
