POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Party Chief or Project Quality Manager, the Surveyor II applies their skills and knowledge to assess the compliance of material and equipment installations with MasTec Industrial and/or Client specifications. This role involves conducting inspections and layouts for various project activities, generating reports on findings, and promptly notifying management of any significant issues. The Surveyor II is responsible for completing documentation to verify satisfactory inspection or testing activities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Document survey results, including land shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions, and ensure data is accurately transmitted to the appropriate files.
  • Record readings and station numbers in a notebook.
  • Mark measurement points with appropriate identifiers.
  • Measure distances between survey points using various tools.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
  • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain precision.
  • Calculate terrain characteristics, property lines, and other relevant features.
  • Interpret survey data to determine positions and elevations of geographic features.
  • Utilize theodolites, transits, levels, and GPS for determining important features and boundaries.
  • Prepare equipment for daily tasks.
  • Engage in additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Proactively seek additional work or assist colleagues upon completing regular assignments.
  • Continuously enhance surveying skills and knowledge.
  • Exhibit punctuality in work assignments.
  • Maintain professionalism in interactions with clients and co-workers.
  • Meet project schedules and budgetary constraints.
  • Manage and mentor direct reports.
  • Ensure calibration status of measuring and testing equipment.
  • Meet daily task schedules to align with project timelines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with craft personnel and team members.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction field with layout or survey responsibilities.
  • Proficient in using various types of survey equipment.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Familiarity with MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Active participation in daily toolbox meetings while on-site.
  • Exemplify safe behavior as a personal standard.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
  • Competence in basic arithmetic and measurements.
  • Developing knowledge of layout and survey work.
  • Ability to follow directions effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks for up to 12 hours in varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform various physical activities.
  • Adaptability to uncontrolled environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and site conditions.
  • Compliance with safety and fall-protection requirements when working at heights.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required.
