Position Overview

The role of the Drainage Engineer involves executing engineering tasks primarily focused on drainage and stormwater management. This includes planning, designing, and offering Design Services During Construction (DSDD) for projects centered around highways, roads, and bridges. Our major clients include regional transportation agencies, municipalities, and private developers, providing a platform for impactful design work under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate effectively with various engineering disciplines, including roadway design and utilities.
  • Conduct hydrology and hydraulics studies to assist Senior Engineers, including hydrological modeling.
  • Design drainage systems and Best Management Practices (BMPs) under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Develop hydraulic components such as culverts and storm drain systems.
  • Prepare analytical reports and documentation, including Water Quality Management Plans (WQMP) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
  • Engage in design assignments to convey design intent through detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Learn and apply local engineering policies and practices during planning and investigative assignments.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering ethics and conduct.
  • Utilize software tools such as Aquaveo WMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ArcGIS.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, with a focus on hydrology or hydraulics.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is highly preferred.
  • 5 to 12 years of relevant experience in civil engineering.
  • Strong technical writing skills are advantageous.
  • Experience with Caltrans and roadway design is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation is required; familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, particularly with data filtering and pivot tables, is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude are essential.
