About the team + role

We are an expanding team supporting a highly ambitious engineering division. The Reliability Engineering team specializes in designing, developing, evolving, and safely implementing changes to large-scale distributed systems; these systems often consist of various components, each with its own complexities. In this role, you will also be responsible for analyzing, resolving, and preventing unforeseen issues that arise from such systems.

The Reliability team is currently focused on two main areas:
  1. Developing and refining our company-wide software tool that monitors all outages and significant events for the organization. This sophisticated tool enables collaboration among all product and infrastructure teams to identify, address, and track major outages.
  2. Monitoring our most critical business workflows, identifying issues proactively, and ensuring the long-term reliability of these essential processes.
As a Lead Software Architect, you will leverage your software and systems expertise to design distributed systems that are dependable, scalable, and resilient for Robinhood. You will collaborate across the broader infrastructure organization to bring this vision to life.

Our technology stack primarily utilizes Python and Go, implemented through container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes. We also employ microservice-oriented architectures and related open-source technologies (e.g., Kafka, Celery/RabbitMQ, nginx, Redis, Postgres, Airflow, Consul, etc.). Our systems are predominantly hosted on AWS.

What you'll do
  • Design and implement new features and services with an emphasis on high availability, low latency, and scalability.
  • Continuously enhance systems and workflows by optimizing architecture, infrastructure, automation, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Take ownership and leadership of Robinhood's infrastructure by ensuring project infrastructure requirements are met and proactively collaborating with customer teams to enhance reliability.
  • Provide mentorship both formally and informally to developers at Robinhood, define and formalize the architecture design process, and guide the overall architectural direction.
What you bring
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
  • Experience in authoring and managing high-scale services.
  • Familiarity with scalable distributed systems, whether built from the ground up or utilizing public Cloud (e.g., AWS) primitives.
  • A commitment to software engineering best practices such as testing, static analysis, continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.
  • Experience with Python/Django/Go and AWS is a plus.
