The Software Platform division, which encompasses Container Orchestration, is dedicated to enhancing developer efficiency and boosting system dependability by creating essential software platforms and tools that support the broader engineering efforts at Robinhood.
The Container Orchestration team is tasked with developing a robust, horizontally scalable, secure, and industry-leading (for Robinhood's scale) suite of Kubernetes-based container provisioning APIs. These APIs are designed to integrate seamlessly with the infrastructure and platform solutions provided by other teams. The primary objective of this team is to proactively maintain the scalability, reliability, and availability of our Kubernetes distribution, which includes overseeing the deployment architecture and configuration of the open-source components we utilize, along with the extensions we develop.
This team is also responsible for establishing and executing a cell-based, multi-region architecture for Robinhood's platform and infrastructure services. This architecture allows platform services to scale efficiently without introducing additional complexity for application developers. The APIs and systems managed by this team facilitate transparent platform integrations (such as sidecars and daemonsets) that deliver core functionalities (Authentication, Security, DNS, Load Balancing, Storage) to the applications, making this area critical to the overall safety and reliability of Robinhood, aligning with our commitment to being a safety-first organization.
Key Responsibilities- Architect large-scale systems within the team, making informed decisions regarding risk and long-term sustainability.
- Proactively identify and implement optimizations and enhancements to the infrastructure and systems.
- Lead and guide the technical direction of projects while mentoring and elevating junior engineers on the team.
- Engage in contributions to open-source initiatives.
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes control plane and data plane components.
- Strong grasp of the Kubernetes Platform and container lifecycle management.
- Experience addressing Kubernetes multi-cluster challenges and networking (e.g., CNI deployment and troubleshooting).
- Proven track record in managing and debugging large-scale infrastructure services in production environments.
- A commitment to mentoring junior engineers and enhancing engineering excellence.
- Contributions to open-source projects related to Kubernetes and similar technologies.
- Previous experience scaling the Kubernetes platform in high-growth startup environments.
- Experience in designing and managing other distributed systems at scale.
