Compensation and Benefits

Public Prep offers a competitive salary based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity, with a salary range of $67,000-$89,898. We recognize the importance of quality benefits for our staff and their families, providing a comprehensive rewards package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, wellness benefits, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, commuter benefits, referral bonuses, professional development, student loan repayment assistance, homeownership programs, and a 403(b) plan with a 5% employer match. Our employees are also eligible for NYS Teacher Loan Forgiveness and Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction and Preparation

  • Address the diverse learning needs of all students in your classroom.
  • Design lessons that foster independent learning opportunities.

  • Provide authentic opportunities for students to process content.

Relationship Building and Student Support

  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment for all stakeholders.
  • Encourage student voice and choice in the learning process.
  • Apply restorative justice principles to manage conflicts and redirect behavior.
  • Manage student conduct and use mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Maintain high expectations for effort, persistence, and quality of work.
  • Celebrate student progress and achievements.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with families through care and trust.
  • Provide regular communication updates for families.
  • Encourage family participation in classroom activities and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Master's degree in English, History, or a relevant field preferred.
  • New York State Certification for relevant grades and content area or progress towards reciprocity.
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful experience as a full-time middle school educator.
  • Experience in a high-performing urban school setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching through ongoing learning and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Commitment to single-sex education.
  • Conversational or fluent Spanish is a plus but not required.
  • A strong work ethic and a sense of humor.
