Overview of the Role
As a key member of the culinary team, you will be responsible for the preparation, storage, service, and delivery of meals to patients and clients at MedStar Health.

Core Responsibilities
  • Organizes patient food service stations on the tray line in accordance with tally sheets or established departmental standards.
  • Compiles patient meal trays and snacks, verifying tray accuracy against the computer-generated patient menu selections to ensure satisfaction.
  • Restocks and replenishes all beverages and food items in the cafeteria service area.
  • Serves customers in the cafeteria, portioning food according to departmental standards and presenting food and garnishes attractively as per guidelines.
  • Prepares and portions necessary food items for patient meals, cafeteria service, and banquet events following specified protocols.
  • Stores and showcases food and supplies in appropriate containers and designated storage areas in line with departmental procedures. Ensures proper dating, labeling, and rotation of refrigerated items such as desserts, dairy products, and salad bar components, adhering to the first in/first out principle.
  • Monitors and logs food and refrigerator temperatures according to established health and departmental standards.
  • Cleans food carts and meal trays; sorts and rinses dishes and utensils in preparation for washing.
  • Keeps assigned work areas clean, organized, and sanitary; disposes of waste and unnecessary clutter as needed.
  • Assists in training new staff members by demonstrating essential job functions.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions, and in-service programs as required, including all scheduled line-up meetings.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.
Experience
  • 6 to 12 months of experience in food service preferred.
Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Capability to follow basic oral and written instructions.
This position offers a competitive salary within the range of $24.383.
