Position Overview:

Jewish Family Service is seeking a dedicated and mission-oriented individual to join the accounting team as the Grant Financial Analyst. In this capacity, you will leverage your expertise in budgeting principles, practices, and accounting experience to provide essential guidance and oversight on the financial management of grants and contracts from inception to conclusion. Your contributions will significantly impact the community, facilitating meaningful change across San Diego. The Grant Financial Analyst is pivotal in managing over $40 million annually in revenue from government contracts, corporate, and foundation grants. This role reports directly to the Grants & Revenue Manager and collaborates closely with the Development team and the broader accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze award agreements to comprehend expense requirements, conditions, restrictions, reporting obligations, and deliverables
  • Ensure adherence to the regulations set forth by the grantor and assist in all contract audits, including the preparation of necessary schedules
  • Monitor expenditures and data metrics to guarantee compliance with grant and contract guidelines, fund availability, and appropriateness of expenses
  • Compile data for reports and ensure timely financial programmatic reporting
  • Maintain essential award documentation and records
  • Manage assigned grants and prepare monthly contract invoicing, conducting budget-to-actual variance analysis and reconciliations as necessary
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify causes, necessary adjustments, trends, personnel reclassifications, potential budget shortfalls, or cost overruns, and opportunities for cost savings across all immigration programs and projects
  • Ensure that direct costs charged to grants and contracts comply with sponsor guidelines and Uniform Guidance, when applicable
  • Participate in post-award grant matters to support accounting deliverables
  • Prepare journal entries and perform account analysis for assigned contracts as part of the monthly close and year-end closing processes
  • Assist with year-end reconciliations and preparation for external audits, including the preparation of necessary audit schedules
  • Attend relevant workshops as necessary
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Essential Skills/Experience/Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience with a focus on general ledger adjustments, reconciliations, and research
  • 5+ years of experience in grants and contracts administration
  • Knowledge of GAAP compliance, Uniform Guidance, and OMB Circulars
  • Ability to create and interpret financial reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment across functions/departments
  • Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workflow effectively
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and proficiency in Word and Outlook
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
  • Desire to work in a collaborative, friendly, and professional environment
  • Passion for contributing to a non-profit, human services organization dedicated to community support
  • Experience with Financial Edge is preferred but not required
