We are looking for a Content Marketing Specialist to play a vital role within the marketing and communications team in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This position will be instrumental in the planning and execution of engaging social and digital media content. As the primary digital content creator, you will ensure that all content is accurate, captivating for our target audiences, and adheres to brand standards. Your responsibilities will include the development of presentations and other internal materials for recruitment and events, leveraging a solid understanding of graphic design principles. You will need to exercise sound judgment regarding content and strategic thinking around its placement and execution, while also demonstrating an analysis-driven approach to both strategic and creative recommendations.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications for Admissions, the Content Marketing Specialist will collaborate with the marketing and communications team, admissions counselors, and other staff to enhance communication, recruitment, and yield efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Implement the social media strategy for the Undergraduate Admissions Office:

  • Oversee the social media editorial calendar and content creation across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, and Discord.
  • Manage student employees focused on marketing and communications, while sourcing content from additional student creators to ensure the production of relevant, original, and high-quality material.
  • Enhance social media audience growth and engagement.
  • Act as a social media expert, staying informed about trends and changes in platforms.
  • Establish and monitor benchmarks to evaluate campaign effectiveness, measure impact, and provide recommendations.
  • Set guidelines for the office's social media activities.
  • Collaborate with university-wide social media managers and the Central Office of Communications.
  • Monitor public mentions of the institution and report any opportunities or concerns to the associate director with actionable recommendations.

Oversee the design of in-house collateral:

  • Lead updates and design for presentations related to recruitment and events.
  • Assist with graphic design projects as required.

Support content development and marketing & communications team initiatives:

  • Provide content development assistance as needed.
  • Engage in planning and brainstorming sessions with stakeholders to ensure that content remains innovative and effective across all areas.
  • Conduct fact-checking, grammar-checking, and proofreading.
  • Ensure a consistent look, message, and branding across all communications.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Microsoft 365 (especially PowerPoint), and Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  • Experience applying graphic design principles to various projects.
  • Familiarity with trends in multimedia storytelling.
  • Ability to produce digital content efficiently and accurately.
  • Capability to utilize design principles to visually convey complex subject matter.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing social media content.
  • Ability to work independently while also fostering collaborative relationships with staff and external vendors.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to a general audience.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to seek and implement feedback on creative projects effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Understanding of effective communications and eagerness to learn about the admissions cycle and best marketing practices in higher education.
  • Strong communication skills with technical staff and other members of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • An advanced degree may substitute for required experience, as permitted by the institution's equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years of relevant experience in a marketing role.
  • Experience in a higher education environment is advantageous.
