Position Overview

$14.25 Hourly

Compensation Note:
The standard starting salary for this role is the minimum of the pay range indicated above. A higher salary may be considered based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Employment Opportunities:
There are openings for both part-time/year-round and seasonal roles.

Part-time/year-round employees may work a maximum of 29 hours per week.

Seasonal positions are anticipated to commence in mid-April and conclude in mid-October.

Incentives for Recruitment:

$100 - Hiring/Return Incentive for Aquatic Safety Officers upon completion of training, orientation, and their first month of active duty; or for returning staff who complete their first month of active duty.

$200 - Incentive for Aquatic Safety Officers who meet the minimum hours worked during the specified periods:

50 hours from mid-April to late May

100 hours from late May to late June

100 hours from early July to late July

50 hours from early August to early September

$50 - Referral Incentive for current employees who refer lifeguard candidates that complete training, orientation, and their first month of active duty.

$100 - End of season bonus for Aquatic Safety Officers who work through early September.

$0.50 - Hourly incentive for Aquatic Safety Officers who work during facility rentals outside of public operating hours.

Important Note:
All approved incentives are contingent upon the employee maintaining good standing without performance issues, including full participation in all required in-service training sessions.

Job Classification:
This role is classified as safety-sensitive in accordance with relevant regulations. Employees in this classification may face disciplinary action, including termination, if they test positive for certain substances.

Job Responsibilities:

This position is situated within the Parks and Recreation Department and is tasked with overseeing activities at a municipal aquatic facility, ensuring the safety of all patrons, and providing emergency assistance when necessary.

Key Duties Include:

- Monitoring swimmers and enforcing facility rules and regulations.
- Advising swimmers on unsafe practices and potential hazards.
- Maintaining order in the pool and surrounding areas.
- Rescuing individuals in distress or at risk of drowning.
- Administering rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

Ensuring a safe and clean swimming environment, both indoors and outdoors, which may involve cleaning restrooms, picking up litter, and securing the premises.

Necessary skills, knowledge, and certifications must be obtained within the first month of employment.

Applicants must possess Lifeguard Certification, Basic First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Module prior to fulfilling job responsibilities.


Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least 16 years old at the time of application.

Application Process:
If under 18, applicants must have a parent or guardian sign a specific authorization form to be considered for temporary, part-time, or seasonal employment.

Training Opportunities:
The City offers affordable lifeguarding and Certified Swimming Instructor classes for those interested in becoming a lifeguard. Training includes essential water rescue skills and emergency first aid.

Cash Handling:
This position may involve accepting cash, making change, operating a concession stand, and collecting fees from patrons.

Pay Method:
Employees are required to receive pay electronically, either through direct deposit or pay card.

Background Checks:
A criminal history background check will be conducted for external applicants upon a conditional offer of employment.
