Job Overview
The Controller department is in search of a detail-oriented and driven professional to undertake a comprehensive range of advanced accounting functions aimed at ensuring timely and precise general accounting records. This department plays a critical role in supporting GAAP and Statutory financial reporting, which encompasses financial statements, disclosures, analyses, and various regulatory submissions.

Role Responsibilities
As a Principal Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing intricate accounting tasks for financial, regulatory, and management reporting, alongside preparing account analyses and reconciliations.
  • Engaging in automation initiatives and mentoring other accounting associates to ensure successful delivery of their responsibilities.
  • Preparing journal entries in the accounting system, ensuring all necessary support is gathered and calculations are accurately performed.
  • Conducting thorough account reconciliations and detailed reviews of balance sheet accounts to foster process enhancement and standardization.
  • Contributing to ongoing improvement, automation, and internal control efforts that align with corporate strategies, particularly in automating specific accounting functions.
  • Providing guidance and training to fellow accounting staff members.
  • Supporting special projects, initiatives, and ad-hoc requests as needed.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in public accounting or a relevant corporate accounting setting.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, VBA).

Preferred Skills
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
  • Possession of a CPA license.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining effective internal control structures.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in support of organizational and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prior experience in insurance accounting.
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials general ledger application.
  • Experience with Cadency and PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and automation projects.
