In this role, you will innovate to influence the future of commercial real estate by:

  • Assisting with various projects and responsibilities as assigned by Subject Matter Experts (SME), Underwriters, or the Deal Closing Unit (DCU).
  • Maintaining expertise in all current underwriting activities and training internal resources, including Processing Group and Flex Analysts, as necessary.
  • Overseeing all underwriting functions for assigned transactions while coordinating and monitoring the quality of loan underwriting tasks executed by internal teams to ensure timely and precise delivery of work products. Address issues and formulate solutions for the Underwriter.
  • Conducting lender inspections as needed.
  • Preparing deal underwriting documentation for the Underwriter and presenting the deal to the loan committee under the guidance of the Senior Underwriter and DCU.
  • Building strong relationships within the underwriting network to facilitate business execution and achieve common objectives while demonstrating diplomacy and adaptability.
  • Encouraging the growth and development of junior analysts by fostering an enthusiastic learning environment. Mentor and support analysts to accelerate their learning by sharing knowledge, best practices, and constructive feedback.
  • Identifying areas for improvement among new or less experienced analysts and tailoring training to ensure they meet learning objectives.
  • Effectively managing daily workloads; ensuring timely communication and collaboration with peers while distributing tasks evenly across the team. Assessing the capacity of internal resources to ensure optimal utilization.
  • Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing, with all levels within the underwriting team, including the Mortgage Banking team and third-party vendors.
  • Creating and updating Job Aids for new tasks, recommending changes to existing aids, and revising them based on the latest updates. Developing process maps and implementing timely modifications as necessary.
  • Contributing to continuous process improvement and suggesting best practices.
  • Establishing a personal development plan for self-directed training and participating in programs required by Berkadia.
  • Coaching and mentoring fellow team members.
  • Remaining flexible to support additional underwriting tasks as required by processes.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
To thrive in this position, you should possess:
  • Experience with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae affordable housing financing is preferred.
  • A strong ability to multitask in a dynamic environment with competing priorities, coupled with exceptional attention to detail.
  • The capability to manage expectations with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset that identifies issues while proposing options rather than waiting for answers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
