Position Overview:

As a key member of the Tax team, the Tax Compliance Specialist will be tasked with preparing a variety of state and local tax returns and conducting necessary research and analysis. This role will report directly to the Tax Manager and will require in-person attendance at our headquarters one day a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare various state and local tax filings, including sales and use tax returns, personal property tax reports, unclaimed property returns, income tax returns, quarterly estimates, and business license applications.
  • Maintain compliance with state and local tax exemptions.
  • Address notices or correspondence from tax authorities.
  • Assist with reconciliations of tax-related General Ledger accounts and other projects.
  • Conduct state and local tax analysis, research, and monitor legislative changes.
  • Evaluate current processes and utilize systems (such as Workday, Ariba, Avalara Tax, K1x/Ctrac) to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Engage in additional projects or responsibilities as needed, including federal filings like Form 990/990-T and reports for the Federal Reserve and Census Bureau.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; a Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation is advantageous.
  • Two to five years of relevant tax experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Experience with state and local tax filings and business licenses is a plus.
  • Familiarity with exempt organization taxation is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, including Pivot tables and complex formulas), Workday or other ERP systems, Ariba, K1x/Ctrac.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods, reach and grasp objects, and communicate effectively. Mobility is necessary, including the ability to handle materials weighing several pounds.
