Job Overview

The Controller division is in search of a detail-oriented and driven professional to execute a comprehensive range of sophisticated accounting functions aimed at ensuring precise and timely general accounting records. This division upholds GAAP and Statutory financial reporting, which encompasses financial statements, disclosures, analyses, and various regulatory submissions.

As a Principal Accountant, your role will involve undertaking intricate accounting tasks for financial, regulatory, and management reporting, as well as preparing account analyses and reconciliations. Beyond routine responsibilities, you will be tasked with investigating new accounting standards and contributing to automation initiatives. Additionally, you will play a key role in mentoring other accounting associates in their deliverables.

Work Environment

This hybrid position necessitates on-site attendance three days a week at designated office locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate journal entries within the accounting system, ensuring appropriate documentation and calculations are obtained for each entry.
  • Conduct account reconciliations and perform thorough reviews of balance sheet accounts to promote process enhancement and standardization.
  • Facilitate the adoption of new accounting standards and regulatory mandates.
  • Compile reporting data to support disclosures for inclusion in regulatory filings.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement, automation, and internal control initiatives aligned with corporate strategies, including driving the automation of specific accounting functions.
  • Prepare various state filings and surveys.
  • Guide and mentor fellow accounting personnel.
  • Assist with special projects, initiatives, and ad-hoc requests.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in public accounting or a relevant corporate accounting setting.
  • Outstanding communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude for learning and applying technical accounting and procedural information.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
  • Willingness to work overtime during peak periods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, VBA).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA certification.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining effective internal control frameworks.
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams for organizational and continuous improvement projects.
  • Prior experience in insurance accounting.
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials general ledger software.
  • Experience with Wings Annual Statement reporting software.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and automation projects.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is between $98,000 and $154,000. This range serves as a general guideline, with multiple factors influencing the final compensation offered to the selected candidate, including the scope of responsibilities, work experience, education, location, and market considerations.
