Electrical Division
Shimmick's Electrical Division, located in Irvine, California, specializes in serving large public sector clients throughout Southern California, particularly in the water resources, water treatment, transportation, and transit sectors.

In the last decade, our division has experienced remarkable growth, securing significant projects such as the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $200 million Groundwater Replenishment System in Orange County.

Responsibilities


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing precise and timely electrical construction estimates that form the basis for competitive bids and proposals for our diverse clientele, including General Contractors, Owners, Developers, and end-users.
  • Analyzing and interpreting detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Identifying and pricing value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications.
  • Conducting budget pricing from schematic drawings and narratives.
  • Drafting scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
  • Leading the Estimating Department, including the training and development of junior staff, and maintaining computerized estimating programs and databases.
  • Fostering positive relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Managing work under deadline pressures efficiently and calmly.
  • Handling change orders and cost-to-complete estimates for ongoing projects.
  • Establishing and communicating company standards for estimating electrical design/build and plans and specifications work.
  • Reviewing estimates prepared by others for accuracy and completeness.
  • Facilitating job handoffs from estimating to operations by clearly outlining detailed scopes of work, specifications, and job-specific conditions.
Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with 12 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Proficiency in Accubid Anywhere with Live Count estimating software is preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:
Exceptional project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands in a deadline-driven environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills for delivering presentations with confidence. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Supervisory experience is desired, with the ability to delegate, coordinate the work of others, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback. A minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating heavy industrial water/wastewater/public works infrastructure electrical construction projects is required.

Demonstrated expertise in electrical power, instrumentation/controls, schematics, and control diagrams is essential.
Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Experience in both hard-bid contract work and conceptual estimating is necessary.

Familiarity with concrete structures and wastewater treatment plants, as well as experience in water resources and water treatment facilities, is advantageous.

Participating in the development of strategies and plans alongside management, understanding estimating terminology, and recognizing processes that may impact projects are crucial aspects of this role.

Involvement in the analysis and utilization of estimates to predict key project issues, as well as assisting the Project Manager in presenting, troubleshooting, and refining estimates, is expected.

Knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequences is essential, along with the ability to assist in preparing budgets and performance plans.

Overseeing the preparation of crew build-ups and production rate determinations, as well as managing the selection of construction equipment, are key responsibilities.

Leading project team estimate reviews and evaluating the suitability of scope and execution plans for the basis of estimates are also required.

Reviewing and approving Estimate Plans, Basis of Estimates, and qualifications, as well as bid tabulations in response to customer Request for Proposal requirements, is part of the role.

Collecting, analyzing, and archiving project data to develop historical documentation, reconciling current project estimate comparisons with previous performance and market benchmarks, and negotiating internal issues, priorities, and deadlines are also critical.

Preparing and negotiating change orders, performing contingency and risk analysis, and delivering estimate presentations to the Executive Review Committee are additional responsibilities.


Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is between $160,000 - $210,000, depending on experience and/or education.

Shimmick's comprehensive benefits plan includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as options to participate in an FSA or HSA.

The company also provides employer-paid STD, LTD, basic life and AD&D, and an Employee Assistance Program. Additional voluntary benefit offerings include pet insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness insurance, legal and identity theft protection.
These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week.

Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
