Electrical Division
Shimmick's Electrical Division, located in Irvine, California, specializes in serving large public entities throughout Southern California, particularly in the water resources, treatment, transportation, and transit sectors.

In recent years, the division has achieved remarkable growth, successfully securing significant projects such as the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $200 million Groundwater Replenishment System in Orange County.

Key Responsibilities


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing precise and timely electrical construction estimates that form the basis for competitive bids and proposals for our clientele, including General Contractors, Owners, Developers, and end-users.
  • Analyzing and interpreting detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Identifying and pricing value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications.
  • Conducting budget pricing from schematic drawings and narratives.
  • Drafting scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
  • Leading the Estimating Department functions, including mentoring junior staff and maintaining computerized estimating programs and databases.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Working efficiently under deadline pressures.
  • Managing change orders and cost-to-complete estimates for ongoing projects.
  • Establishing and communicating company standards for estimating electrical design/build and plans and specifications work.
  • Reviewing estimates prepared by others for accuracy and completeness.
  • Facilitating job handoffs from estimating to operations by clearly outlining detailed scopes of work, specifications, and project-specific conditions.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with 12 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Accubid Anywhere and Live Count estimating software is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for confident presentations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Supervisory experience with the ability to delegate and monitor team performance.
  • Over 10 years of experience in estimating heavy industrial electrical construction projects related to water/wastewater/public works infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical power, instrumentation/controls, schematics, and control diagrams.
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in hard-bid contract work and conceptual estimating.
  • Familiarity with concrete structures and wastewater treatment plants, as well as water resources and treatment facilities.
  • Alignment of customer and company objectives.
  • Participation in strategy and plan development with management.
  • Understanding of estimating terminology and processes that may impact projects.
  • Involvement in the analysis and utilization of estimates to forecast key project issues.
  • Collaboration with Project Managers to present, troubleshoot, and enhance estimates.
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequences.
  • Assistance in preparing budgets and performance plans.
  • Oversight of crew build-ups and production rate determinations.
  • Selection of construction equipment.
  • Management of estimate preparation.
  • Leadership in Project Team estimate reviews.
  • Training and development of estimators, from entry-level to experienced IBEW Craft members.
  • Evaluation of scope and execution plans for estimating purposes.
  • Review and approval of Estimate Plans, Basis of Estimates, and bid tabulations.
  • Collection, analysis, and archiving of project data for historical documentation.
  • Reconciliation of current project estimates with previous performance and market benchmarks.
  • Negotiation of internal issues, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Preparation and negotiation of change orders.
  • Conducting contingency and risk analysis.
  • Delivery of estimate presentations to the Executive Review Committee.
Additional Information
Qualified candidates who receive an offer must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. This position does not provide sponsorship for work authorization in the United States. The salary range for this role is between $160,000 - $210,000, depending on experience and education.

Shimmick offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as options for FSA or HSA participation. The company also provides employer-paid STD, LTD, basic life, AD&D, and an Employee Assistance Program. Additional voluntary benefits include pet insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness insurance, and legal and identity theft protection.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with EAP services.
