POSITION SUMMARY:

The Photography Program Manager is responsible for planning, overseeing, and executing photography projects that align with the mission of the Marketing and Communications department. This role involves capturing and editing high-quality studio, event, portrait, and promotional photographs. The individual will provide advanced technical photography expertise, maintain equipment, and manage the archival process for photographic files. Additionally, the manager will supervise staff and ensure compliance with established branding guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise staff photographers, student assistants, and external contractors, providing feedback to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Plan and coordinate studio and field photography sessions.
  • Capture, edit, and enhance high-quality images for marketing materials, publications, and news releases.
  • Edit submissions from external contributors while maintaining content integrity and improving quality.
  • Assist with camera setup, lighting, and other equipment in both studio and field settings.
  • Stay informed about current software trends, including Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Manage photography archives and fulfill photo requests for departmental use.
  • Oversee equipment security, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Balance creative needs with project timelines and budget constraints.
  • Explore innovative photography styles to remain current with visual trends.
  • Meet deadlines for post-production work.
  • Utilize a project management system to track project progress and communication.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in photography or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
    • At least two years of professional photography experience.
    • Proficient in camera operation, editing, and archiving techniques.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to:
    • Multitask and collaborate professionally in a fast-paced environment.
    • Work within a project management framework and meet deadlines.
    • Be available for occasional evening and weekend work as required.
    • Travel as necessary.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
  • Other Requirements: A portfolio is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Four or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with project management systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student workers and support staff.
