Key Responsibilities:

The Y12 National Security Complex plays a crucial role in maintaining national security through its three primary missions: safeguarding the US nuclear weapons stockpile, mitigating global threats, and supporting the US Navy's nuclear propulsion program.

As a Waste Package Certifier (WPC) at Y12, your role will involve certifying that waste packages are prepared, filled, sealed, and secured in accordance with established procedures, regulatory standards, and acceptance criteria. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Waste Certification Manager and Alternate Certification Officials as required.
  • Ensuring compliance of waste in Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved packages with relevant waste management procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying and segregating prohibited items from acceptable waste.
  • Verifying that waste has been accurately characterized and prepared prior to packaging.
  • Completing necessary documentation for package certification.
  • Collaborating with waste generators and engineers to address all aspects of waste packaging.

Qualifications:

  • An associate's degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or a high school diploma with 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening test is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • A DOE Q security clearance is required; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and relevant DOT regulations.
  • Experience in waste certification programs or verifying packaging for waste destined for environmental management facilities is preferred.
  • Prior experience at Y12 is advantageous.
  • An active security clearance issued by the US government is preferred.
  • Experience in production settings is a plus.

Work Arrangement:

  • This is a full-time position (40-hour work week).
  • Occasional use of respiratory protection may be required.
  • This role is based onsite at the Y12 facility.

Benefits:

BGS offers a competitive compensation package, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation, 401K, and both long and short-term disability coverage.

Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and position requirements.
