Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Specialist

Position Summary: The selected candidate will play a crucial role in providing technical assistance to the ship's crew, supporting the Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) at a prominent shipbuilding facility. This role involves delivering electrical and mechanical expertise to ensure the effective assessment, troubleshooting, repair, and fine-tuning of specific systems and equipment utilized by the Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assistance Team (CEMAT).
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional checks and operational tests of various systems onboard the vessel.
- Provide repair assistance through Job Sequence Numbers (JSNs) and facilitate On-the-Job Training (OJT).
- Engage in logistics support, including reviews and validations, as well as material condition assessments and quality assurance tasks.
Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the following:
- Basic hand tools, including screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, saws, and hammers.
- Expertise in overhauling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to utilize testing equipment effectively.
- Proficient computer skills, including navigation through complex systems and basic use of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, email, and internet applications.
- Physical capability to lift and transport heavy equipment, with weights typically starting at 30 pounds.
- Willingness to work at heights, in extreme temperatures, and in confined spaces.
- Flexibility to perform various tasks under challenging conditions, including exposure to high heat, humidity, and noise.
- Compliance with safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in potentially hazardous environments.
Required Certifications:
Candidates must have completed the following training:
- OSHA 7615 (Shipyard Employment) 10-hour training course
- Respirator physical and fit test
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training
- Nuclear Awareness training for non-nuclear work on nuclear vessels (NAVSEA Standard Item)
- Aerial Platform Operator certification (JLG/Scissor lifts)
- Fall Protection training
- Fire Watch training
