Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical expertise in Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) to guarantee the safe processing, storage, transfer, and handling of fissile materials, protecting personnel and property from nuclear criticality incidents.
  • Analyze equipment, processes, and procedures to prescribe appropriate methods, control requirements, and limitations.
  • Conduct inspections, walkthroughs, and audits of fissile material operations to ensure adherence to safety approvals.
  • Provide specialized NCS guidance and advice to operational areas.
  • Facilitate training sessions for employees on fundamental NCS principles.
  • Validate, maintain, and operate nuclear computational codes and nuclear cross-sections.
  • Develop, revise, and review Nuclear Criticality Safety documentation, including Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs) and Nuclear Criticality Safety Determinations (NCSDs).
  • Complete required NCS annual Operational Reviews as necessary.
  • Offer daily support for nuclear facilities, including facility assessments and reviews of NCS implementation documents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience applying Department of Energy (DOE) regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful completion of drug screening.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
  • Active Q Clearance.
  • Over 20 years of relevant professional experience.
  • 10 years of experience in a DOE-regulated environment.
Location and Work Arrangement:
  • This position is based on-site.
