Key Responsibilities:
The Nuclear Waste Certification Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with various regulatory and procedural requirements related to waste management. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Waste Certification Manager and other officials as necessary.
- Ensuring that waste is packaged in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Y12 waste management procedures.
- Identifying and segregating prohibited items from acceptable waste.
- Verifying that waste has been accurately characterized and prepared prior to packaging.
- Completing necessary documentation for waste package certification.
- Collaborating with waste generators and engineers to address all aspects of waste packaging.
Qualifications:
- An associate's degree in a relevant field or a high school diploma with substantial experience in waste management.
- Successful completion of a drug screening test.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and to work overtime as needed.
- A DOE Q security clearance is required; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and other relevant regulations.
- Experience in waste certification programs or with the Environmental and Waste Management Facility.
- Prior experience at Y12 is advantageous.
- Possession of an active security clearance issued by the US is preferred.
- Experience in production environments is a plus.
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time position requiring a 40-hour work week.
- Occasional use of respiratory protection may be necessary.
- This role is based at the Y12 facility.
