Job Summary

Rush is seeking a highly skilled Grants Specialist to manage all aspects of federal, state, pharmaceutical, philanthropic, and foundation grants and funds. The ideal candidate will exemplify the Rush mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage departmental, federal, state, pharmaceutical, philanthropic, and foundation funds, ensuring compliance with contract terms and avoiding overspending.
  • Develop and implement budget planning and forecasting, researching data to prepare accurate budgets and ensuring timely processing through institutional channels.
  • Provide up-to-date, accurate reports on research and other funds, including state and federal billings, and prepare complex reports as directed by the Chairman or Research Director.
  • Monitor project, research, and discretionary funds, maintaining a detailed database of expenses and reconciling grants and contracts monthly.
  • Assist in grant proposal preparation, fostering collaborative relationships with co-investigators and overseeing their timely completion of assignments.
  • Perform targeted funding searches, disseminate extramural funding opportunities, and communicate with potential funding sources.
  • Work with the Research Director to prepare yearly departmental professional and operating budgets.
  • Prepare staff change notices, purchase orders, petty cash, and check requests, ensuring expenditures are within grant or contract budget.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience in a finance-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in dealing with funds, fund reports, and financial status reports.
  • Strong analytical ability, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and willingness to learn new grants management software.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and make effective plans.
