Job Summary

Stanford University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to work as a Grant and Finance Specialist in the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the vision, strategy, and goals of various research efforts within the Division of Primary Care and Population Health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the preparation of administrative components of proposals, ensuring compliance with sponsored and nonsponsored research guidelines.
  • Develop and finalize project budgets, providing budget justification and ensuring cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled.
  • Serve as a liaison between principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments, responding to sponsor inquiries and ensuring awards are set up properly.
  • Review and approve expenditures, advise on post-award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to funds and revenue.
  • Develop and communicate reports supporting project status, creating effective forecasting and decision-making tools.
  • Understand, apply, and advise on university and government policies for projects.
  • Serve as a resource on subject areas and overall technical expertise to principal investigators and other university staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of job-related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of policies related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance and sponsor policies and practices.
  • Strong understanding of Stanford systems, including Stanford Electronic Research Administration (SeRA), Oracle financials, Commitment Management System, iLab, and Business Intelligence reporting module.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.
  • Strong accounting skills, knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Ability to complete Cardinal Curriculum I and II within the first year in the role.
  • Knowledge of procurement needs, including sole-sourcing, cost analyses, vendor requirements, and small business reporting.
  • Knowledge of property management requirements related to Stanford or non-Stanford title of equipment and fabrications.
  • Competency in project management.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well independently, but also to seek or offer assistance when needed.
  • Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with an understanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsored project.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Accountant or Auditor or similar credential desired.
