Department Overview

The San Francisco Housing Platform (SFHP) encompasses a collection of programs within the Northern California Housing Services Department aimed at providing scattered-site supportive housing and rapid rehousing for individuals at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. Supported by the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), the SFHP's mission is to deliver a streamlined set of resources to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining stable housing. To fulfill this mission, Brilliant Corners identifies and secures housing units throughout the Bay Area, offers move-in assistance and rental subsidies, coordinates with case managers, and fosters neighborhood relations.

Role Summary

The SFHP Program Supervisor collaborates closely with the Associate Director, Program Manager, and Housing Acquisitions Manager to expand the SFHP and fulfill the ambitious objective of housing individuals in San Francisco who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Each Program Supervisor will oversee a team of 4-8 Housing Coordinators and one Senior Housing Coordinator, who provide housing retention services to clients accessing supportive housing in the area. Responsibilities include onboarding new staff, ensuring adherence to program policies and procedures, and nurturing the development of team members to deliver professional and timely support to clients and partners. Program Supervisors will also work alongside the Program Manager to conduct team meetings and provide individual supervision for Housing Coordinators. Regular communication with partner agencies is essential to ensure coordinated tenant care that aligns with Housing First principles. Additionally, the Program Supervisor will employ creative strategies to prevent evictions and address housing-related challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Recruit, train, and mentor team members in collaboration with the Program Manager and People Operations Department.
  • Act as a representative of the Program and Organization to external partners and the community.
  • Facilitate team meetings to address program matters, share insights, and motivate staff.
  • Coordinate training sessions for new employees.
  • Work with department heads to identify areas for improvement.

Tenant Services

  • Provide guidance on tenant-related issues using a client-centered approach.
  • Serve as a liaison with Intensive Case Management Services.
  • Ensure high standards of tenant service quality.
  • Guarantee a positive experience for tenants throughout their tenancy, starting from move-in.
  • Encourage positive relationships between landlords and tenants to enhance tenant retention and conduct routine home visits.
  • Facilitate data collection, file audits, and periodic reporting.
  • Adhere to program budgets and maintain records of direct program expenses.

Compliance

  • Monitor adherence to government and funder regulations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all regulatory requirements.
  • Stay informed and comply with all state tenant/landlord laws.

Additional Tasks and Projects

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills, including staff support, training, or meeting facilitation.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with homeless or highly vulnerable individuals in a housing or similar program.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct multiple field visits.
  • Experience in crisis settings is a plus, with the ability to respond effectively in emergencies.
  • Knowledge of supportive housing principles.
  • Familiarity with Fair Housing Laws and reasonable accommodations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license, a clean driving record, and automobile insurance.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel; PowerPoint experience preferred.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and task prioritization.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in decision-making, along with strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Capability to work independently.
