Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering support services to a diverse population of individuals and families within a network of formerly public housing. This role operates within a trauma-informed care framework, applying best practices to enhance the quality of life for residents by acknowledging the significance of community and social environments.

This position is tasked with the planning and execution of ongoing onsite programs, which encompass health and wellness initiatives, educational workshops, cultural events, and community organizing efforts. The coordinator will also provide essential information and referrals to residents requiring advanced care coordination, including clinical support and assistance with housing stabilization.

Employment Status: Full-time, Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage along with a comprehensive benefits package.

About the Organization: Founded in 1977, the Chinatown Community Development Center is a private non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a comprehensive vision of community. We manage a portfolio of affordable housing that serves a wide array of low-income residents, including seniors, single adults, and families from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Our mission is rooted in community empowerment, grassroots leadership development, and resident engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct services such as general information, referrals, and light case management to a growing population with complex needs.
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate educational, social, and recreational activities, which may include health workshops, safety drills, and community celebrations.
  • Collaborate with onsite staff and external partners to enhance service delivery and program offerings.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with social service agencies to expand programming opportunities.
  • Support residents in navigating housing stability challenges, including assistance with rental applications.
  • Document and report data as required for compliance with city mandates.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to engage with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for community involvement and resident engagement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field, with a minimum of two years of experience in direct service provision, or
  • A high school diploma with five years of relevant experience in service delivery and program development.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults and individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges is highly valued.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with local resources and public benefits.
  • Experience in public housing or supportive housing environments.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and community organizing principles.
