About the Role
The Cinema Operations Director reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for overseeing the management, budgeting, workforce planning, and performance of cinema operations across our four venues. This role prioritizes exceptional customer experiences and fosters a positive workplace culture aimed at employee recruitment and retention.

The Cinema Operations Director is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic goals and values of the organization. This position involves long-term planning to enhance systems, processes, and policies in alignment with our mission. While primarily working standard office hours, flexibility is required to support cinema operations during evenings and weekends, as well as for special events or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Operations Management:
    Develop and implement the overall strategy and annual plan for cinema operations to ensure outstanding visitor experiences.
  • Manage and oversee the annual budget for cinema operations, monitoring income and expenses.
  • Establish key performance indicators for cinema operations and regularly report on these metrics.
  • Utilize performance analysis to assess program success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure effective facilities management to maintain and invest in cinema properties.
  • Plan and oversee operations to create accessible experiences for all visitors.
  • Develop emergency preparedness plans for cinema facilities and staff.

People Management:
Provide leadership and support to the cinema management and technical operations teams, ensuring compliance with HR policies and fostering a culture of development and engagement.

  • Supervise hiring and performance management for cinema operations staff.
  • Ensure training manuals and job descriptions are current for all staff.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on workforce planning and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Support HR in union-related matters and negotiations.
  • Encourage professional development within the cinema operations team to enhance operational excellence.

Leadership and Community Engagement:
Represent cinema operations at internal meetings, board discussions, and community interactions.

  • Contribute to organizational priorities and policies as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with various teams to achieve shared goals and identify growth opportunities.
  • Engage with community organizations to support effective cinema operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, film, or arts operations, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven leadership skills with a focus on inclusivity and social justice.
  • A minimum of seven years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in cinema operations or large-scale public events.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with film projection technology is a plus.

Physical Demands:
This role requires effective communication, prolonged periods of sitting, and regular use of a computer.
