Position Summary
The Director of Cinema Operations is accountable to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for overseeing the management, budgeting, workforce planning, and performance of cinema operations across our venues. This role prioritizes exceptional customer experiences and aims to cultivate a positive workplace culture to enhance employee recruitment and retention.

This position is integral to the Senior Leadership Team, supporting strategic objectives and organizational values. The Director will create and implement long-term strategies to enhance operational systems, processes, and policies in alignment with our mission. While primarily working standard office hours, flexibility is required to support cinema operations during evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning and Operations Management:
    Formulate the overarching strategy and annual plan for cinema operations to ensure outstanding visitor experiences.
  • Manage and monitor the annual budget for cinema operations, including income and expenses.
  • Develop key performance indicators for year-round cinema operations and oversee regular reporting.
  • Utilize performance analysis to track program success and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Encourage continuous improvement in operations that align with organizational goals.
  • Ensure effective facilities management for the long-term care of cinema properties.
  • Plan and oversee operations to create accessible experiences for all visitors.
  • Establish emergency preparedness plans for cinema facilities and staff.

People Management:

  • Provide leadership and support to the cinema management and technical operations teams.
  • Facilitate development, coaching, and HR compliance for all staff.
  • Oversee hiring and performance management for cinema operations staff.
  • Ensure training manuals and job descriptions are current for all operational staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Support HR in union-related matters.
  • Promote training and professional development within the cinema operations team.

Leadership and Community Engagement:

  • Represent cinema operations at internal meetings and in union interactions.
  • Participate in Senior Leadership Team discussions regarding organizational priorities.
  • Engage with community organizations to support effective cinema operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, film, or arts operations, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering organizational culture, inclusivity, and social justice initiatives.
  • A minimum of seven years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in cinema operations or large-scale public events.
  • Proficiency in budget development and financial forecasting.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with film projection technology and relevant software.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role include effective communication, prolonged periods of sitting, and computer use.
