Job Overview

The Senior Financial Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the Fleet accounting division by managing the complete accounting cycle for the department. Key responsibilities encompass the preparation of journal entries for the month-end closing process, delivering variance analyses, conducting account reconciliations, and collaborating with both internal and external auditors, alongside other accounting duties. This position necessitates cross-training to ensure backup within the department and fosters collaboration with various finance and business teams within Holland America Group. Furthermore, the Senior Financial Accountant will engage in project meetings and assist management with consulting, designing, testing, and executing accounting initiatives. This includes contributing to ongoing enhancements through reporting, automation compliance, and offering strategic insights. The role will also tackle challenges related to the integration of new IT systems, addressing training, security, and workflow disruptions. Collaboration with other teams within the Finance department, Financial Technology, and Fleet Operations is essential.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly preparation and posting of complex and adjusting journal entries.
  • Oversee the monthly preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Actively engage in Fintech project meetings and the implementation of new accounting processes and documentation.
  • Prepare monthly concessionaire reports, including adjustments, reviews, and compliance checks.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Assist in the development or revision of shore-side accounting policies and procedures.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis on pertinent balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Interact with external financial auditors and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Perform validation and reconciliations for Onboard Revenue JEA voyages.
  • Complete other related functions and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a comparable field.
  • Experience in Corporate Accounting is preferred.
  • Possession of a CPA or currently pursuing CPA certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with a variety of standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; knowledge of Oracle is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, adaptability to change, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods.
