Opportunity

The primary duty of the Senior Systems Engineer within our Health Solutions Division is to create groundbreaking consumer products as part of a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary team. The Senior Engineer in Systems Engineering must blend robust technical expertise, collaborative leadership, creativity, and business insight to guide complex system products from initial concept to production.

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Employs innovative problem-solving techniques to design effective, cost-efficient, and functional wellness bathing products that captivate customers and embody the Kohler brand.
  • Maintains a positive outlook and collaborates with cross-functional teams, including marketing, program management, industrial design, and manufacturing operations, to ensure timely and budget-conscious product delivery.
  • Exhibits a passion for innovation and actively seeks opportunities to develop transformative products.
  • Possesses proven experience in systems engineering integration, with a preference for candidates who have expertise in integrating electromechanical systems such as pumping, heating, or refrigeration technologies.
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including thermoforming, casting, injection molding, extrusion, and metal fabrication.
  • Is adept at coordinating efforts across various regions and cultures within a global engineering framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Industrial Design to establish product specifications based on consumer research, market insights, and sales feedback.
  • Define system-level requirements for a complex product family and work with internal or external engineers on subsystem design and integration.
  • Analyze competitive products and assess current warranty metrics to benchmark new product designs.
  • Conduct high-level feasibility assessments on initial product concepts.
  • Oversee concept development across mechanical, electrical, and software teams in multiple global regions, ensuring technical requirements and engineering execution are met.
  • Act as the primary engineering liaison with the cross-functional team and leadership, effectively presenting information to project teams and management.
  • Drive the growth of key wellness areas of expertise to support product and market leadership.
  • Ensure best practices are applied intelligently to optimize system design, utilizing methods such as FEA, CFD, and Design of Experiments.
  • Leverage prototyping and testing lab capabilities to create physical prototypes that validate product features.
  • Employ tools like DFMEA and engineering design critiques to identify and mitigate high-risk failure modes.
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing teams and suppliers to balance cost, performance, quality, and project timelines.
  • Lead the strategy for project CAD models and drawings, partnering with global CAD and engineering teams to perform calculations, tolerance stacks, and develop detailed technical drawings in accordance with engineering standards and GD&T.
  • Optimize designs using Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles to ensure reliable, stable, and efficient mass production.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through meticulous product verification test planning.
  • Develop reliability and design test plans for new product requirements, leading qualification and reliability testing on subsystems and components, and supporting testing activities in various labs.
  • Assist in manufacturing ramp-up by providing on-site feedback during pre-production builds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering experience, including collaboration with electronics engineering for electromechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD modeling.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically as required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical topics clearly across various levels.
  • Proficient in independently testing, analyzing, and resolving technical challenges.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail.
