Position Overview

The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - Pain Management and Palliative Care is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to the advancement of pharmacy services within the University of Michigan Health System.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care (70% of Role)
  • Develop and implement innovative pharmacy services tailored to pain management and palliative care.
  • Provide expert recommendations to healthcare teams regarding medication selection, dosing adjustments, and comprehensive medication management for patients with pain management needs.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care.
  • Lead initiatives focused on regulatory compliance and quality improvement.
  • Participate in departmental and health system committees as required.
  • Deliver patient care services during weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

Education (20% of Role)
  • Design and implement educational programs related to pain management pharmacotherapy.
  • Serve as a resource for pain management education, facilitating professional development for healthcare staff.
  • Contribute to the training of pharmacy students and residents through didactic and experiential learning opportunities.

Research (10% of Role)
  • Engage in research initiatives, drug utilization reviews, and quality improvement projects aligned with the health system's objectives.

Qualifications
  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Completion of a pharmacy residency program or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a registered pharmacist and possession of a Michigan Controlled Substances license.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to perform various manual tasks.

Work Environment

This position requires a commitment to a day shift schedule with rotation for weekends and holidays. Opportunities for hybrid or remote work may be available based on departmental discretion.

Additional Information

Supervision is provided by the assistant director or designated team leader, with functional oversight of pharmacy residents and technicians. Background screening and pre-employment drug testing are conducted for all candidates. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity employer.
