The Chief Pharmacy Officer/Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs is a pivotal role that encompasses strategic leadership and operational management within the pharmacy services sector. This position reports to both the Chief Operating Officer of Pharmacy and the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the statewide pharmacy services across a comprehensive health system, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective medication management.
- Formulate and execute a strategic vision for pharmacy operations that aligns with the overarching objectives of the organization.
- Oversee critical functions including pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, inventory management, and distribution processes.
- Manage a substantial budget, approximately $1 billion, while monitoring financial performance and resource allocation.
- Recruit, develop, and retain a highly skilled pharmacy workforce, ensuring adequate staffing to meet patient care demands.
- Design and implement a robust medication-use system that prioritizes patient safety and quality of care.
- Enhance the role of pharmacists in improving medication use quality and safety throughout the health system.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including clinical faculty and health system administrators, to integrate pharmacy services with clinical practices.
- Engage in strategic planning processes and serve as a senior advisor within the academic setting.
- Promote compliance with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within pharmacy operations.
Qualifications
Education:
- Doctor of Pharmacy or Master of Science degree is required, along with completion of a residency in health system pharmacy administration or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of ten years in senior pharmacy leadership roles within an academic medical center or complex health system, with a proven track record in strategic vision development and implementation.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing large budgets, human resources, and ensuring medication safety.
Skills and Competencies:
- Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Michigan.
- Exceptional communication and mentoring abilities.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on collaboration and partnership across various healthcare disciplines.
- Proficiency in pharmacy informatics and technology, along with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
